About Me

Joy Retter | Training and Consulting

My name is Joy and I run my own training and Education consultancy in Swindon, Wiltshire with over 17 years of experience. I have been a tutor for many years, delivering for Swim England (ASA) approved centres, STA, and UK Coaching (SCUK) as well as other sports and NGBs (National Governing Bodies). I am an avid learner myself, developing my own knowledge in a wide range of interests, which I ampassionate about passing on to others. I also love challenges and finding solutions, which is why I love working and helping people who have additional and complex needs. I provide a vast amount of sports education, with lots of variety and applying a fun, an easy approach.

I originally qualified as a state-registered chiropodist in the 80s and have worked in both the NHS and private sectors with experience of delivering health education through different media platforms, such as Al Jazeera™ TV, Qatar Radio™, Gulf News™, and What’s On™ magazine.

Within my Chiropody training, I studied 3 years of biomechanics and have developed a keen eye for detail that helps with analysis. I have worked as a swimming teacher both at home and overseas for more than 20 years, teaching babies through to adults, non-swimmers through to elite, and helping those with disabilities as well as providing Aquafit, Antenatal, Postnatal and Rehab classes. Over the years I have broadened my swimming consultancy to other sports such as fencing and gymnastics,
as well as staff and individual training and assessments. I can also advise on first aid and more generic topics, like behaviour management, equality, safeguarding and additional needs.

Qualifications

I hold a Certificate in Education, QTLS D32/33, and IQA awards. I am a recognised tutor for Swim England, Swimming teachers Association and UKCoaching.

I am a member of the Society of Education and Training, the Institute of Swimming as well as Swimming Teachers Association

Testimonals

“Excellent”

"I have had really good feedback from the candidates about the tutor - very rare when it comes to safe guarding but she was excellent”

Gymnastics

“She Was Brilliant.”

“The way in which she delivered the course was brilliant. She talked with passion and had a huge amount of energy and engaged fully with everyone. I felt the need to give this feedback as it was not possible to articulate it on the feedback forms. She was brilliant.”

“Excellent Course”

“Thank you very much for the excellent course this evening and hope you had a safe return journey”

“A Very Interactive Delivery Method”

Joy has been brilliant in delivering to our sports leaders during the past couple of years. The students really enjoy her delivery method, which is very interactive”

PSC

“Engaging and Well Presented”

“Thank you also for providing a first-rate course. I went on many child protection courses during my time as a headteacher, though my cover is now lapsed and they obviously didn't relate specifically to sport. I can confidently say, however, that none have been as engaging and as well presented as this. Well done!”

“Joy Talked with Passion and Had a Huge Amount of Energy”

“I was dreading attending last night’s course. The last time that I participated in this workshop I felt as if I was being taught to suck egg! I have been in the police service for 19 years and a large proportion of my service has been working with children achieving best evidence for prosecutions at court. I have done vast amounts of safeguarding courses organised by the police and social services. While Joy went over lots of things that I already knew, she also sign-posted me to several fantastic sources of information."

“Travelled to Us and Gave Us Fabulous Handouts”

“Just been to a fabulous CPD Joy Retter with additional needs. Joy, it was such an eye opener. She travelled to us, fabulous handouts, and explained to us what things mean. Joy, thank you again. PS, I’m dyslexic and I understood it – feeling refreshed”

JW from STN

“Explained the Subject Matter Very Well”

“Thanks for coming in last night and running the course for us. I thought it was very well presented and put the subject matter over very well. Delivering a course in the evening after everyone had been at work all day is never easy but it was very good.”
